Gala of Cuban National Ballet Offers to Celebrate Bay of Pigs Victory

The Cuban National Ballet offered Wednesday night a gala on the occasion of the celebrations for the 50 anniversary of the Bay of Pigs victory over the mercenary invasion.

The program, with the presence of prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso and Culture deputy Minister Rafael Bernal, included Le Corsaire pax de deux, Idilio, En las sombras de un vals and Pretextos.

The closing piece was reserved to The magic Flute (choreography by Alicia Alonso, based on Lev Ivanov's homonymous work, music by Riccardo Drigo).

Prima ballerinas Viengsay Valdés and Sadaise Arencibia excelled at the Le Corsair and En las sombras de un vals, along partenaires José Losada and Alejandro Virreyes.

The Cuban National Ballet is a classical ballet company based at the Great Theatre of Havana, Cuba. Founded by the Cuban Prima Ballerina Assoluta, Alicia Alonso in 1948, it has become recognized as one of the world's leading ballet companies.
