Cuban Filmmaker Wins Award at Uruguayan Film Festival

The Cuban filmmaker Barbaro Joel Ortiz won the prize for Best Animated Short for "20 años" (Twenty Years), at the 4th Cine del Mar Film Festival in Uruguay.

The 2009 film deals with unsuccessful attempts of a woman to revive her 20-year marriage.

The Cine del Mar film festival, which ended last week, was held in the resort city of Punta del Este.

Festival director Fernando Goldsman and producer Jorge Jellinek presented Ortiz with a plaque from the Maldonado City Council and the Cine del Mar award in a ceremony at the Cuban embassy in the capital.

Goldsman said it was the first time that the regional festival had invited Cuba to participate, and that Ortiz's film won over audiences, critics and other experts.
