Culture Minister Highlights Values of the Caribbean Festival

The Minister of Culture of Cuba, Abel Prieto Jiménez, qualified the Festival of the Caribbean as a feat of cultural resistance of the Cuban people and a monument to diversity.

He said it has been a prowess of the Caribbean House and the people of Santiago to keep alive this celebration of popular cultures of the area for three decades without interruption, even in moments of great contraction of the Cuban economy.

The 30th Festival of the Caribbean, to take place from July 3 to 9, was inaugurated on Saturday in the Cuban eastern province of Santiago de Cuba.

This year the festival, included a symposium on the Caribbean and the presentation of the 54th edition of the Del Caribe magazine, a publication dedicated to reflect the popular culture of our nations.

The people of Santiago de Cuba carried out the Parade of the Serpent, a sort of welcome to the participants of the festival last Monday.
