Fina García Marruz, winner of the 2011 Reina Sofia Latin American Poetry Award, on Tuesday will receive the Honorary Doctorate in Philological Sciences from the Central University of Las Villas (UCLV). The award will be presented on Friday at the Center for Studies on Marti, in Havana.
The departments of Social Sciences and Humanities of the UCLV, founded 60 years ago, proposed the award in recognition of her lifetime work, which is deeply humanistic and transcends Cuban borders.
In addition to Cuban awards, Garcia Marruz has received the Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Prize, and her work has been translated into several languages and has been included in numerous anthologies.
