Caribbean Cinema Traveling Exhibition Premieres Website

The Office of the Caribbean Cinema Traveling Exhibition presented a website that will allow greater visibility and online distribution of high quality films in the region.

The page www.caribefilm.com, in Spanish, English and French, has sections for discussion and reflection on the Caribbean cinema such as "La imagen pensada"(the intended image), with essays, articles, interviews and reviews.

Anther section is "From authors and works", which database is in charge of leading specialists in the area. Users can access a free service of intralinguistic subtitles and advice.

Chaired by Cuban filmmaker Rigoberto Lopez, the Exhibition was founded in 2007 and is considered "the most significant regional action to promote Caribbean movies and audiovisuals in the region and in the world."

The third edition, which opened in late 2010 and will end next June, has toured 11 countries and in the coming months will visit Trinidad and Tobago, French Guiana, Panama, Barbados, Curacao, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Venezuela. It is comprised of 43 films and a special series devoted to Haiti.

According to Lopez, the 2012 edition will be dedicated to the diaspora and will have its debut on May 9 in St Kitts and Nevis, with the international forum Challenges of a Reality and its Images. To close the year, the office prepares a gathering of filmmakers from Africa, the Caribbean and their diasporas in Havana, attended by people from Ethiopia, South Africa, Angola and Burkina Faso, among others.
