Actresses Rosa Vasconcelos and Alina Rodríguez and director Miguel Coyula are the three Cuba-based Cubans who won the important ACE 2011 Awards (film and television) granted by the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics of New York.
The winners will receive the awards during a gala scheduled to be held on April 23, 2011 at the Kaufman Center in downtown New York.
Veteran TV, film and theater actresses, Rosa Vasconcelos and Alina Rodríguez, received awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, for their performances in El Premio Flaco by Cuban director Juan Carlos Cremata, based on the play by Cuban playwright Héctor Quintero.
Meanwhile, young filmmaker Miguel Coyula won the Best Opera Prima Prize for the film Memorias del Desarrollo (Memories of Overdevelopment), based on the well-known novel by U.S.-based Cuban writer, Edmundo Desnoes, author of Memories of Underdevelopment, which later became a film directed by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea with the unforgettable performance by Sergio Corrieri.
