Musical Play to Honor Compay Segundo


Cuban young actors will pay tribute to the life and work of the late Cuban musician Compay Segundo, with the one-night stand premiere of the musical play "Las Flores de Su Vida" (The flowers of his Life). The director of La Marabal company, Tulio Marin, said that the play is intended to rescue and venerate traditional Cuban music, a cultural and identity genre of Cuba.

Actress Maridelmis Marin, a staff member, declared that she got fascinated and amazed when she read the script due to the enjoyable and nice way the love story between Compay and Macusa is narrated. The leading roles of "The flowers of his life" will be played by Yanet Corzo (Macusa) and Marín (Compay Segundo), including other two actors and 10 dancers that perform 12 choreographies with music by Compay Segundo and traditional songs.

The company is scheduled to perform in Santiago de Cuba province after its presentation in Havana. Compay Segundo was born in Santiago de Cuba on Nov. 18, 1907. He won a Grammy Award for his participation in the Buena Vista Social Club record.
