The Cuban children’s theater company, La Colmenita, directed by Carlos Alberto Cremata, will travel to the United States this month for presentations in Washington, New York and San Francisco.
The tour’s program, scheduled for October 12 through 30, includes the play La Cenicienta según los Beatles (Cinderella after the Beatles), where audiences will have the chance to assess how children see the famous band which had such a strong impact on the US and the world. The play is adapted to current Cuban reality.
Another piece to be staged is Abracadabra, which enables the public to see how children see today’s Cuba and the situation of the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly locked in US jails for fighting terrorism.

The 20th International Book Fair in Havana was dedicated to children on the weekend with several activities specially organized for them at the main venues of the event in Havana.
The program for the last weekend of the Fair in the Cuban capital includes concerts, sports competitions, contests, raffles of books and workshops to teach children to make kites.
Among presentations scheduled for Saturday was that of “Colección Veintiuno” (Twenty One Collection) by the Gente Nueva publishing house.
This Sunday 20 visitors enjoy a performance of the Bebe Colmenita Children’s Theater Company, the Clave de Sol children band and the Guaracheritos de Regla conga dancers.
Other sub venues of the Fair offer activities for children as well over the weekend.
The International Book Fair Cuba 2011 closes on Sunday in Havana and starts in other provinces of the country where it will run until March 6.
The Cuban children’s theater company La Colmenita arrived in Romania on Wednesday as part of a tour that includes Bulgaria and Turkey, director Carlos Alberto Cremata said.
The company, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, was welcomed at the Palace of Children in Bucharest, where they will perform on 12 August.
The group, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, ended a tour of Andalucia and Cantabria in Spain in Monday after performing 24 shows attended by more than 10,500 people.
In theaters, squares, hospitals, schools and centers for the disabled in Seville, Granada, Almodovar del Rio, Torrelavega, Laredo, Huelma, and San Vicente de la Barquera, the children performed their show, "Meñique," an adaptation by Cuban writer Jose Marti of "Le Petit Poucet" by Édouard René de Laboulaye.
As usual, children performed live songs from the Nueva Trova genre, by singer-songwriters such as Pablo Milanes and Silvio Rodriguez, and others by the groups Los Van Van and The Beatles.
Founded in 1990, La Colmenita has several branches in countries like Venezuela, Mexico, Panama and Colombia. Since its creation, it has performed on stages in the United States, Canada, Finland, France and Germany.
